Meet the Executive Director, Mr. Donn Hallman
Our Executive Director, Donn Hallman, seeks to do more than introduce youth to music and teamwork. He strives to enrich the lives of all the students through achieving excellence, discipline and self-confidence. Mr. Hallman earned his B.S. degree from Cal Poly, Pomona, in 1986. He has taught professionally for over 10 years and served as a judge with the Southern California Judging Association. He also directed bands for the Orange County Department of Education’s CHEP program, Oak Middle School in Los Alamitos. Mr. Hallman has also taught music courses at the Speech and Language Development Center, City of Huntington Beach and Orange County Christian Academy, as well as other private and public schools.
In 1998, Mr. Hallman founded a small homeschool band with seven student musicians. Expanding the program with beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, the bands dedicated themselves to performing in the community.
Today, Orange Coast Musical Arts (OCMA) operates a program of musical excellence serving children ages 6-18 who don’t have access to a band or orchestra in their traditional school setting. There are over 150 students from varied cultural backgrounds who participate in this low-cost program that not only teaches the fundamentals of music and theory but also offers several performing ensembles.
